Commission Approves Pit Rule Amendments

New Mexico’s Oil Conservation Commission approved amendments Friday to a rule governing pits that hold liquids from oil and gas operations, but details are sparse. The full effect of changes won’t be clear until the commission’s legal staff drafts the final order…“No matter how you look at it, from our perspective, it’s a bad deal for public health and the environment,” said New Mexico Environmental Law Center staff attorney Eric Jantz.

The commission also approved fracking ponds…“They’re artificial chemical lakes with no limit on how big they are.” Jantz said. Albuquerque Journal
