We opened the Law Center's (donated) doors in 1987...
Then, our goal was to fight for our state’s beautiful public lands. But it didn’t stay that way for long. In 1990, we worked with residents in Sunland Park to shut down a medical waste incinerator in their neighborhood. The incinerator spewed thick, black smoke; when it ran, the neighborhood smelled like burning flesh. It was awful. It was a fight that needed a good lawyer.
During that effort, we saw the real results that can come when engaged communities work with public-interest attorneys. (In that case, we permanently shut down the incinerator.) We have been the environmental attorneys for New Mexico’s communities ever since.
We would not be here without our supporters. Your investment in the Law Center has resulted in cleaner air and water, healthier people, and the protection of very special places. You make it possible to take on our state’s toughest environmental cases, worst polluters, and most entrenched decision-makers. Thank you. We look forward to working with you for a clean, safe, healthy New Mexico for decades to come!
